The Original Blessing of the Bikes

May 16-18

 

Event drew more than 5,000 motorcyclists to the area. In addition to major partying on Friday and Saturday at The Red Rooster, the Boogie Down M/C hosted a party at the Lot Owners Facility and an afterhours gathering around a massive bonfire in the woods that lasted til 5 a.m.

 

Season Kick-Off Celebration @ Morton’s Motel

Motown recording legend Martha Reeves was the featured guest at this free community appreciation picnic and Idlewild season opener celebration, singing some of her classic tunes and signing autographs for enthusiastic fans.

A stage play presented by Central Michigan University and held at the Idlewild Historical Museum and Cultural Center.

 

The Strut 

June 13-15

A stage play by the Idlewild Theater Company appears at the Idlewild Historical Museum and Cultural Center. Tickets cost $10.

 

Juneteenth Retreat & Freedom Picnic @ Morton’s Motel

June 20-22

 

Spend two days in historic Idlewild and enjoy fellowship and festivities with a special film fest, poetry, music and dancing and an outdoor feast. Enjoy a historical tour of this 95 year-old black-owned resort community. Go bike-riding, sun bathing, or dare to cruise up the state preserved Pere-Marquette River in a canoe, kayak or raft. Hang out and toast freedom and the ongoing struggle with friends at the Red Rooster!

FISH FRY @ MORTON'S MOTEL

Famous catfish and perch dinners sold to benefit the Mattie H. Ware Community Fund. Starts at noon, ends when fish runs out. So, don't procrastinate!

 

 

Idlewild MusicFest on William's Island

July 10-12

                             

Back by popular demand, Bobby Rush will be one of the featured acts in this annual live lakefront concert with many other nationally renowned gospel, jazz, blues, and rhythm & blues artists. Thursday, July 10,  is Gospel  Night with free admission. Tickets required on Friday and Saturday. $10 in advance and $15 at the gate.

 

8th Annual Lake County Car Show

Annual benefit for the D.A.R.E. program lures hundreds of classic car enthusiasts and spectators.
