MORTON’S MOTEL
In the 1980s and 1990s, a growing body of staunch Idlewilders began a series of efforts to revitalize this historic community.
Morton’s Motel stood front and center in this process.
Originally built in 1950 by William Morton, former Detroit schoolteacher and businessman, Mr. John Meeks, purchased and
renovated this lodging facility in 1992. Today, Morton’s Motel is the only lodging facility from Idlewild’s heyday–including
the Paradise Hotel and the Casablanca–that remains open for public accommodations.
New owners of Morton’s Motel aim to continue advancing the legacy of Idlewild for future generations.
